PALM DESERT. This touching memorial is dedicated to the hundreds of thousands who lost their lives in ­ and endured the unimaginable atrocities of ­ the Holocaust. Their story is told through plaques and seven larger-than-life bronze figures that rest upon a double-tiered Star of David 20 feet across. Located 10 miles southeast of Palm Springs.

This tramway transports passengers in rotating cars 2½ miles from Valley Station in Chino Canyon to and from Mountain Station at the east edge of Long Valley. The route promises absolutely breathtaking views and access to the rugged San Jacinto mountains. Located 3 miles southwest of SR 111, the tramway is a must during any stay in Palm Springs. No reservations are available, but tickets may be purchased online.

Along this thoroughfare, a series of stars honoring celebrities is embedded in the sidewalk like at the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Palm Canyon Drive is also lined with great shops, offering a perfect opportunity for browsing or window-shopping. In addition, you can see the Showbiz Museum at 132 South Palm Canyon Drive; it documents the area's entertainment industry roots.
